WINDOW SUMMIT 2010 – Now a Virtual Event

Windows Summit 2010 has become a virtual event!

This is a special opportunity to learn – straight from the Windows team! How you can best use Windows 7 and Internet Explorer to enable great solutions for you customers. This event is designed for people who want to build great products on Windows 7.

Different tracks will be available for different roles:

Device technical implementer
Discover the rich customization features in Windows 7 that enables partners to create a custom user experience for the PC or device. Targeted at software and device firmware engineers, this track will provide you with the direction and technical information to unlock the power of Windows 7 to create a great device experience. Available on May 25.

Understand the features of Windows 7 that you can leverage to create and deliver the best system possible. You’ll see how implementing a few fundamental techniques can dramatically improve overall system quality and key user experiences. Available on June 2.

Software technical implementer
The Windows 7 platform makes it easy for developers to create engaging, user-friendly applications by providing familiar tools and rich development features that allow them to take advantage of the latest PC capabilities. The sessions in this track will guide you through the key developer advances in fundamentals, richer application experiences, and the best of Windows and the Web. Available on June 16.

Windows Enterprise 90 Day Trial: Extended Till 12/2010

Due to popular demand, the Windows Enterprise Trial program has been extended. This means you now have till Dec 31st, 2010 to download and evaluate the trial version.

You have 10 days to activate the product. If not activated within 10 days, the system will shut down once every hour until activated. Unsure on how to activate? Visit our FAQ.
The 90-day Trial is the full working version of the Windows 7 Enterprise, the version most of you will be working with in your corporate environment. It will not require a product key (it is embedded with the download).
The 90-day Trial will shut down once every hour when you have reached the end of the 90-day evaluation period.
After the 90-day Trial expires, if you wish to continue to use Windows 7 Enterprise, please note that you will be required to purchase and perform a clean installation of Windows 7, including drivers and applications. Please keep this in mind; Windows 7 Enterprise is not available through retail channels.

7 Ways to Change the World

To celebrate the launch of Windows 7, Microsoft is launching an exciting new online competition today called 7 Ways to Change the World.

All you need to do is to create a two minute video explaining how they believe a Windows PC could help a non-profit make a greater impact. It could be helping a food bank manage their inventory or helping to deliver after school care for kids, the possibilities are endless!

There will be 7 winners, and each person who submits a winning entry will receive a new PC with Windows 7 and a $7,000 grant for their chosen NGO. All the submitted entries would be kept online, providing NGOs with a great resource of ideas on how they can use technology.

This competition provides a nice alternative community-focused angle on the release of Windows 7 and I’ll urge you to promote it to as many people as possible.
