The *new* deal with Windows 7 Starter edition

Previously, The deal with Windows 7 Starter edition.

Windows 7 Starter

In the latest announcement on The Windows Blog, Windows 7 Starter would be available worldwide on small notebook PCs, instead of just emerging markets as announced earlier. Also, the 3 application limit that the previous Starter editions included would now be waived off to allow users to run as many applications simultaneously as they would like.

However, even though this makes Windows 7 Starter an attractive option for basic small notebook PC users, the edition includes only a subset of the features offered in the higher editions of Windows 7.

Touch Me, I’m Windows 7

The Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 showcases immersive experiences using Windows 7 and multi-touch. The Touch Pack consists of three multi-player games, a fish-themed screensaver, and a couple of interesting applications that take advantage of multi-touch features of the Microsoft Surface platform.

For Microsoft Touch Pack for Windows 7 – you’ll need a Windows 7 PC that supports multi-touch, and would be available to OEMs who can pre-install the available applications.

Using multi-touch, you can navigate to different regions, get local information, and “pin” your favorite locations. You can even “fly” around 3D models of buildings in some cities.

Microsoft Answers: Getting Ready for Windows 7

It's a crowded street

Microsoft Answers has been a great resource introduced for Windows Vista for regular consumers to connect with Microsoft folks, MVPs, and other community enthusiasts to ask what you need to know or share your answers. It seems obvious that Microsoft would be getting ready for a similar experience for Windows 7.

However, there is a section on Answers on Getting Ready for Windows 7 already. If you’re not a technical expert, but just an everyday computer user interested in testing the Windows 7 Release Candidate, or just learning more about Windows 7, this is the place for you to ask questions and share your knowledge.

Hat tip to Rob Margel for the dig.
