Windows 7 Application Compatibility Part 2: Virtualization

On Thursday, September 24, Mark Russinovich will host a virtual roundtable for IT pros worldwide to discuss Windows 7 Application Compatibility Part 2: Virtualization. This is a chance for IT pros to learn all about Windows 7 Application Compatibility, Virtualization and answer any deployment and management questions that they may have.

Join the discussion on how presentation virtualization, desktop virtualization and application virtualization can reduce testing times, expedite deployment and ultimately help you streamline PC management. The roundtable will cover the latest desktop virtualization technologies from Microsoft, including App-V, MED-V and XP Mode for Windows 7. Plus they’ll share tips and tricks and demonstrate free tools to analyze and fix applications while answering your questions live during the event.

As part of the “virtual” experience, you may submit your questions about Windows 7 Application Compatibility to the panel live during the event—or submit questions in advance to vrtable@microsoft.com.

Windows 7 speaks your language

Blank Noise- Women's Day 2008Windows Team Blog reports that as of August 25th morning, several language packs are available for download from Windows Update for users running Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate RTM versions only.

However, I haven’t seen the Hindi language pack in my updates as yet, and also the Traditional Chinese –Taiwan language pack is known to be released at a later date. Hindi language pack is expected to be out in October now.

The following language packs have been released: Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Chinese – Simplified, Chinese – Traditional – Hong Kong, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian Latin, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian.

Dell Certified Windows 7 Drivers

Dell Certified Windows 7 Drivers

The Windows 7 team at Dell have started posting Dell Certified Windows 7 Drivers at www.support.dell.com/Windows®7 where you will find the first set of drivers for their systems.  Additional drivers will be posted in coming weeks and months. These drivers would also be available via Windows Update.

Great news for students or faculty who are on MSDNAA

For all those who are on MSDN Academic Alliance, Windows 7 Professional will be available in ELMS on August 13th 2009.

Along with Windows 7, the following list of products will be available in ELMS:

  • Microsoft CCR and DSS Toolkit 2008 R2
  • Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio 2008 R2
  • Expression Studio 3
  • Surface SDK

Please note that these products are only available in English at this time.

 

In order to make these products available on your storefront (http://msdn.e-academy.com/demo), please follow the steps below:

  1. Login to ELMS as the Administrator
  2. Click on “Hosted ELMS” icon on the right side of the administration page
  3. Select one or more of the above products from the product list
  4. Click on the button “Enable Selected”
